FAQs: Re-Opening Libraries

When will libraries re-open?

Libraries will begin their partial re-opening on Monday, May 18, with limited services and limited capacity in the building. Capacity guidelines for each branch will be posted at the entrance.

How should I expect to enter the library?

You will be greeted by a library staff member at the door who will be counting the number of people entering and exiting the building. If the building is at maximum capacity, you will be asked to wait to enter until occupancy is within the appropriate limit.

Are face coverings required?

In accordance with CDC recommendations, we are requiring that both staff and the public wear face coverings. If you do not have a face covering, we will have a limited supply available.

Will I be able to browse for materials like normal?

Magazines and newspapers are not available for browsing at this time. Magazines, however, can now be checked out, including current issues. All other material areas will be open for your browsing pleasure. Social distancing is required. If you pick up an item that you decide not to check out, we ask that you put it on the designated “unwanted materials” carts.

Will there be seating areas?

Seating areas, study rooms, and meeting rooms will not be accessible.

Are study rooms available?

Yes, in branches that have study rooms, they are now available by appointment. To make an appointment, please call your branch.

Is computer use available?

Computer use is limited to an appointment basis. Three appointments at a time, with a 60-minute time limit, are being offered at each branch on a daily basis. To schedule an appointment, call your branch in advance.

Will there be programming?

All in-person programs will be postponed until further notice. However, branches are now offering virtual programming. See Event Calendar for more details.

Is there a change in how I check-out materials?

To limit contact, self-check-out machines are to be used to check out materials. Staff will be available for assistance.

Are there special cleaning procedures in place?

Your health and safety are of utmost importance to us. We will be disinfecting high-touch surfaces throughout the day.

How long will this limited reopening phase last?

Updates on changes will be provided through our website and social media. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

When will materials that I've returned come off my account?

We are quarantining materials as we receive them, so they will appear on your account for a few days longer until they are processed.
